They're Here!!!
September 6, 2006: Puppies have arrived. 13 puppies....7 females and 6 males. All are sables, a nice variety of brown, golden, gray in light and dark.

September 8, 2006: Another long night!! I thought we lost one around midnight. Jessie was laying on her when I did a head count. Her gums were white, and she was limp and not breathing. I put my hand around her muzzle, gave her a couple breaths, and massaged her chest. By some miracle, she came back to life and is doing fine now. Her name just might be "Lucky" because they dont usually make it when they are that far gone. I was up every 2 hours to rotate puppies. And I am sleeping in Jessie's room with her. Jessie was very anxious all night and kept licking herself like something was wrong. Also refusing food again. So, we rushed to the vet again this morning. Everything seems fine (no infection or otherwise) so the vet thinks she might be feeling some pain from having ALL those puppies.

Our other dogs are mad at me because the puppies are taking so much of my time. Siri is throwing "temper tantrums". I keep thinking HE is sick too...but he is just trying everything possible to be #1 again. (Poor guy) The puppies are growing a lot!! I will get weights again later today. I am still supplement feeding all of them, and rotating the girls and boys in and out of the whelping box, so they are definately being fed well!

September 14, 2006: The babies are all doing well. They have been averaging about an ounce weight gain each, per day. Today was a big day....they averaged 1.6 ounces each! They are definately growing!!! Our biggest is 25.5 ounces (Orange collar girl). The second and third biggest are 25.4 ounces (Hot Pink Girl and Light Blue/Dark Blue Boy). Our little one is Purple girl who really isn't all that little...LOL She is 20 ounces. I will take pictures tomorrow! Finally....a day off to enjoy the puppies! They just turned a week old.

September 16, 2006: The babies are gaining about an ounce to 1 1/2 ounces a day. Our big boy is 1.8# already! All are gaining nicely. It is becomming apparent which are going to be the HUGE ones...LOL They are 9 days old now. All are very active, and talkative!! I am still rotating babies through the box, throughout the night. I will probably continue this at least another week, when we start their mush feedings. Jessie is such a good mama. She shows so much concern for her babies well being, and tends to them very well. (She is the type that would still be nursing at 8 weeks old if we let her...LOL)

Litter Summary: I was very pleased with what we saw in the Jessie/Gryphyn combination. I must admit-I was surprised to see the "Artus factor" come so far forward, and show up in Red Collar girl! We had a really nice range of temperament, yet still a lot of similarity. We are seeing the best of both parents. Conformation was awesome, and temperaments were fun and very people friendly. I am going to look forward to watching these puppies grow up, and reach their potentials. I have another absolutely awesome group of puppy people joining the Strauss Haus family!

Red Collar Girl (Taiko): She is a Breeding Quality brown sable plush. She has a medium to medium-hard temperament. Oh, this girl was hard to part with! This is my kind of temperament...her middle name is "trouble". This is one independent and confident puppy! She is so happy her whole body wags! She is very observant and has no fear. She had a blast retrieving the ball at the LER. She actually picked up the can of pennies and paraded through the crowd showing off. She had a great game of tug-o-war with the tester, and she ran off with that too, showing the crowd her "catch". She feeds off laughter! She has a nice solid bite when working with the tug.....the tester was able to walk in a circle with her holding on at the end. The evaluator had several names for her: "dynamo" and "proud & fiesty". This one has plenty of spunk and is a flashy pup. I think of her as a "riot". She will provide her new mom and dad with hours of entertainment, and with her confidence, is capapble of any activity. I would love to see her in the show ring turning on that charm!!

Green Collar Boy: He is one of the two Show Quality puppies. He is a dark gray sable plush, with a medium temperament. He has a bit of play and prey drive and tons of retrieve drive. He will love a game of fetch. This is a happy and confident puppy with a tad of independence. He is very trainable. He has a "happy go lucky" attitude and will no doubt be a joy to show. He is built very nicely and has nice movement. He is a nice combination of great looks, awesome personality and intelligence.

Dark Blue Collar Boy: He is a Pet-upgradeable, soft temperament with a touch of attitude. He is an observant puppy, and also a thinker. He was the one who looked over the wall of the maze to figure out where to go. He has prey drive, but we found that he has no interest in biting whatever he has caught up with. We found he will try to get his way by using his charm. His new mom has already taught him "sit", "down", "come" and they are making progress on the "high five".

Aqua Collar Boy: He is a breeding quality gray sable smooth. He has a medium to medium-soft temperament. He is a proud puppy. He is a willing worker and wants to please. This puppy followed the tested immediately with his tail wagging. He has some play, prey and retrieve drive. He is very people oriented and will bond easily to his people. He was perfect in the maze, with a little ground scenting. This guy also has very nice movement.

Lt Blue Collar Boy: He is a Pet Upgradable, medium-soft temperament, Gray sable plush. He is independent with some self indulgence, but he also want s to be catered to. He is a happy puppy and can think his way through problems. He will train best with mild training methods. He has some interest in the toys and the tug, but very little retrieve drive. He is another happy, wiggly puppy.

Purple Collar Girl: She is a breeding quality, dark brown sable plush with a solid medium temperament. She has her granddam (Saber2's) eyes. She is very much like her sister, Red collar girl, but not to such extreme. She has excellent retrieve drive, play drive and prey drive. She was another girl who paraded the tug around the crowd. She will bond very easily to her people, and no lack of kisses here! The evaluator called her a "really nice pup". She also has beautiful movement, and with this outgoing temperament, would be fun in the show ring.

Yellow Collar Girl: She is a Breeding Quality golden sable smooth with a Medium temperament. This girl has great play and retrieve drive. She brought the tug to the evaluator, and was very proud of herself. She investigated the can and tried to pick it up. She did awesome in the maze-no scenting-just came right out like she had done it 100 times! She is a smart puppy, and this one loves to be cuddled and held.

Lt Pink Collar Girl: She is a Breeding quality gray sable plush, and is a medium-soft temperament. The evaluator called her "pizazz". She LOVED the squeeky ball, and bit it several times to make it squeek. She also brought it back to the tester several times. She loved the tug, and she ran after and barked at the can. She ran the maze perfectly. She is a very willing worker and will work for praise. She loves people and is a social butterfly. She is a fun puppy with a loving soul.

Orange Collar Girl: Pet Upgradeable, Medium Temperament, Golden Sable Smooth. She was one of the biggest puppies in the litter and has really nice bone and a great head. She pounced on the ball at the LER and retrieved it once she was shown what to do. She will be a breeze to train. She was the puppy we saw "air scenting" several times through the LER tests. She showed some interest in the tug, and she picked up the can and paraded it around. She went through the maze perfectly. She has average play drive, Not much prey drive and some retrieve drive. She is also a snuggler and loves to be close to her people.

DkBlue/LtBlue Smooth Gray Sable Male: Breeding Quality, Medium to Medium-Hard temperament. He is a gray sable smooth with markings very similar to his daddy Gryphyn. This guy is a happy, happy puppy. He does have independence with a touch of willfullness. He has a higher prey drive, and one heck of a nose on him. He ground scented his way out of the maze. He is also a very proud puppy. He parades himself with his head held high! This is our "alpha" boy. If there was a disturbance in the puppy pen, he was usually behind it.

Black Collar Smooth Gray Sable: Pet-Upgradeable, and has a solid medium temperament. He is a gray sable smooth. He is an independant boy and very observant. He does have some willfullness, and could develop protectiveness. This guy is not at all needy. He is a thinker though! He was one who sized up the maze and thought his way out. He didn't show a whole lot of interest in the can or the ball at the LER, so not much prey drive here. He did pull on the tug, and carried off to me in the crowd. He reminds me of his mama (Jessie). He will bond strongly to his family and will be very loyal, but probably not a whole lot of interest in strangers.

Hot Pink Collar Girl: She is a Show quality gray sable smooth with a solid medium temperament. At the LER she followed the tester immediately and likes to stay close. She has excellent retrieve drive, loves the squeeky ball, and took the tug and paraded it around like a prize. She was another puppy straight out of the maze. She is a happy girl who wants to stay close to her people. She has beautiful conformation and really nice, smooth side movement.

Rainbow Collar Reddish-Brown Sable Plush Girl: Pet Quality, Reddish-Brown sable plush, with a soft temperament. She was one of the puppies in this litter who ground scented her way out of the maze at the LER. She has plenty of play drive, but no retrieve drive or prey drive. She is a happy puppy when content. She followed the tester at the LER immediately, and gives lots of kisses. She can be serious and a bit concerned when unsure of what is going on. She will need some confidence building. She is a very submissive puppy, and will need mild training methods. She will be easy to train, and will bond quickly to her new people.

This will be a NB2 (Orbit)litter. Jessie is a Goldie/Orbit and Gryphyn is out of the 2005a Saber2/Phoenix. We should have both smooth and plush, and a nice range of temperaments. This will be Jessie's last litter.

Gryphyn is a large, gray sable plush with a temperament that is absolutely amazing. Nothing phases him. He is such a friendly, outgoing and very well adjusted boy! He spent two days with us (complete strangers) and away from his mom and dad, and he settled right in at our place without so much as a woof. PennHip (L) 0.34 (R) 0.34
