ABOUT US

We are a small “kennel“, located on the Olympic Peninsula, in Port Angeles, WA. We are just moments from Hurricane Ridge, the Olympic National Park and National Forest, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Our location provides for many outdoor activities for our dogs. We hike weekly, visit the local beaches and walk the waterfront trail. We also spend time at our local park and have started a few of our dogs in beginning tracking.
Our dogs live in our home as part of our family. Our puppies are whelped in our spare bedroom, in which I stay from birth, to ensure the puppies are safe and healthy, and to keep our Mommy dogs company.
Leo is retired, and spends all day with the dogs. It is like "Doggy Daycare" at our house while I am at work!
Sirius also makes a great babysitter/entertainer for the puppies here at Strauss Haus. Sirius loves having all the puppies around. He allows the puppies to chew on his ears, “kill” his tail, and nip at his toes. He always responds with a big lick to their faces. He is very “maternal” for a boy!
I work at a Veterinary Clinic, and currently am going to school to get my Veterinary Technology degree. I am eligible to sit for the National Exam and I am hoping to be licensed as a Veterinary Technician later this year. Eventually, I would like to complete a Bachelors in Companion Animal Science. I am also working toward getting my VTS-Behavior Veterinary Technicians Specialty license through Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians. I think I have finally found my place in life!
Another one of my interests is Canine Genetics, and I would like to pursue formal education in that direction as well. I have traced several of my dogs back to the first registered German Shepherd, Horand von Grafrath (SV1), and have studied genetic faults and virtues, including littermate analysis, on all my planned breedings, with a minimum of 7 generations of littermates and siblings. We have access to 60 generation computer generated pedigree analysis, as well, which aids me in digging deeper and further back into the lines I am planning to breed.
I have a degree in Criminal Justice, and my previous careers include Juvenile Corrections Officer and Animal Control Officer. I still maintain my certifications in both.
For fun, I have been active with our local Police Department K9 program, as a K9 Quarry (“Bad-Guy” Decoy) for about 9 years now. I also decoy for several other agencies in Washington State. I try to attend as many training opportunities possible, and completed 16 hours in Law Enforcement K9 Tactical Operations in Spring of 2010.
I enjoy showing our dogs in conformation. We have a great group of “Shiloh people” here in the Northwest and it is a great opportunity for all of us to meet up and show off our dogs!
Our dogs and puppies are used to being around children, and spend quite a bit of time with our grandkids. They become accustomed to all the normal household sounds, such as vacuum cleaners, television, radio, household appliances, etc. They also share our home with 4 cats!
Take your time and look through our website and meet our dogs, see our progeny. Be sure to check back often as we update our site frequently. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
