ABOUT WHITE SHILOH SHEPHERDS

White and buff Shiloh Shepherds can be traced back to the very origins of the German Shepherd. Although the white GSD has been purged from the current GSD standards, we very much welcome our white and buff Shiloh's! Their coloring, along with the Shiloh size and coat, make them stunning examples of the breed, and are sure to turn heads when out and about town! The white and buff colored Shiloh's do very well in the hotter southwest and southeastern climates, because their coats do not absorb the heat like the darker colored dogs do.

White Shiloh's, as with white GSDs, are NOT albinos. They are merely a color variation which causes lack of pigmentation. Our white and buff Shiloh's have dark eyes, and darker pigmenting on their noses, eye rims and pads of their feet. Therefore, none of the albino-associated health problems found in other breeds apply to the white Shiloh. The gene for white coloring is recessive; both the sire and the dam must possess the gene for the color in order to produce white pups. If a white Shiloh is bred to a non-white, the non-white must possess the recessive genetic makeup for whites. Otherwise, the pups will all be of color. The white recessive may also produce what is called a 'faded sable' or 'bleached sable' with shades of caramel, honey and apricot, with all of the sable markings. While not true 'whites' they are nevertheless beautiful dogs.

Aslan's grandfather is Mygic (pictured below left) a stunning white Shiloh Shepherd out of the famous Zion's A-Tribute to Snows Grizz at New Zion kennels. Elektra carries the most recent white gene from Hoof Print Orbit (pictured below right), a white German Shepherd introduced some years ago to strengthen bloodlines.
